Photovoltaic Farm on Root-System Foundation – 2,6 MW – Germany
2,6 MW
Eichelbuck, Germany
The Badenova-Deponie Eichelbuck project is a 2.6 MWp photovoltaic farm built on a rehabilitated landfill in Freiburg, Germany. The installation consists of 4,446 panels and uses the innovative Root-System foundation technology, allowing the construction to be installed even on challenging terrains.
Technologies and solutions applied in the project:
-
Root-System – instead of traditional piles, steel erdnagles (anchors) of 1000–1400 mm in length were driven at an angle of 40°–65°, forming a root-like layout for structural stability.
-
Two-stage structural stabilization – front and rear supports connected with riegels ensure a secure tilt angle of 15°–25° and stability on sloped terrain.
-
Integrated module and inverter mounting – special rails and clamps with torque control (10/20 Nm) and 2–4 mm expansion gaps reduce thermal stress.
-
No interference with the protective layer of the landfill – the solution ensures full environmental safety without concrete foundations or deep drilling.
Site parameters:
-
Rehabilitated landfill, altitude 225 m above sea level
-
Snow zone II (0.85 kN/m²), wind zone I (0.32 kN/m²)
-
Terrain slope up to 30–40°
The project demonstrates that photovoltaic farms can be implemented in difficult and unconventional locations while maintaining full operational efficiency and environmental safety.
